Inside my tortoise shell - by BTA

Inside my tortoise shell
by Brian Thomas Armstrong

A tortoise shell is what I wear
when everyone is there

It keeps my tears
trapped in its armor
and hides my metal fears

Throughout the years
it keeps them there
deep inside
my hardened mind

But when I’m alone
I’m inside out
and my hard dark shell
becomes soft and clear
