The latest senseless massacre of movie goers seeing the premier of the new batman flick “The Dark Knight Rises,” by alleged gunman and part time evil maniac, James Holmes, in Aurora, Colorado, has once again brought to the World’s attention the modern trend of seemingly normal, if maybe a little weird individuals losing total touch with reality and going bat shit nuts on the rest of humanity for no apparent rational reason.
Here is a brief rundown of just a few of the most notable mass shootings in the last five years: July 20, 2012 – James Holmes, alleged “Joker killer,” shoots 58 killing 12 in Aurora, Colorado, at a crowded movie theater.- Motivation : He’s the Joker? July 22, 2011 – Anders Behring Breivik, kills 77 as he massacres a youth camp in Norway. Motivation: Doesn’t like Muslims. Nov. 5, 2009 – Maj. Nidal Hasan, kills 13 troops and civilians at Fort Hood, Texas. Motivation: Bad career choice? April 16, 2007 – Seung – Hui Cho, kills 32 fellow students and staff at the Virginia tech. campus in Blacksburg, VA. Motivation: Student life in America is to stressful compared to South Korea?
None of the motivations listed above, or in the news, and especially in the shooters minds, can possibly justify the insanity of their terrible actions. So when did their insanity start, why were the warning signs ignored or tolerated; in some cases by their future victims. I think the answer to that question partly lies in our freedom of expression and right to easily and quietly buy as much weapons as we can afford. These important rights and privileges as Americans also have a tendency to bite us in the ass at the least expected moments; like when we decide to enjoy a good movie at the theater with our friends and families. The other sad blame also has to fall on the people who decide to throw rational reality aside and become the evil villains they always dreamed of being, inflicting all their self-loathing’s, short comings, and insecurities on the innocents around them. They do this in order to show us the power inside them, that they felt we as a society intentionally ignored all their lives. They will sit in their prison cells for the rest of their life sentences in solitary confinement with a goofy grin on their face telling themselves over and over agian throughout the years how they finally showed us, having crossed too far into fantasy to ever truly return to the terrible reality they have inflicted on themselves and others.
